The Archaeological Museum of Aqaba is located in the historical part of the city in the former palace of the founder of the Hashemite dynasty, Sharif Hussein bin Ali. The exposition presents archaeological finds dating back to a vast time interval: from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. The list of the most famous exhibits includes a tablet with a verse of the Koran, which adorned the eastern city gates in the 9th century, and gold coins circulated in the Shiite Fatimid caliphate in the 10th century.
