Photo and description

Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, is a city with bustling streets. Shops, shopping centers in the city, unique natural parks of stunning beauty, located a couple of kilometers from paved streets, coexist in an amazing way. Since ancient times, the island's landscapes, climate and unusual architecture have attracted colonists and then tourists. Local residents and guests of the state have always tried to record their impressions in stories, paintings, souvenirs, using films and photographs.

In the city center, opposite the theater building, there is one of the places where the illustrated history of the state of Mauritius is collected ... The Port Louis Museum of Photography is the private collection of Mauritian photography master Tristan Breville. An excellent collection of vintage cameras, textbooks, greeting cards, daguerreotypes (the predecessor of modern photography, made by imprinting iodine and mercury vapors on a silvered plate) is housed in six rooms.

The largest hall is intended for displaying printing machine tools, framing daguerreotype images, photographic albums, artistic frames for pictures, equipment for shooting, ranging from ancient to modern objects. The entire history of the island and its inhabitants is collected in old photographs. Under each of them is a brief description of the event and the person captured on it, the history of things and the way they got to Mauritius.

For a tour of the museum, it is enough to come on weekdays from 10 to 15 hours, ring the doorbell ... The cost of admission is free for children under 12 years old, for adults - 100-150 rupees.
