Photo and description

The Old Believer Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos of the Intercession-Assumption Community is located in Maly Gavrikov Lane, near the Baumanskaya metro station. The temple was founded in June 1909.

The project of the temple was made by the famous architect I. Bondarenko, who specialized in the construction of Old Believer churches. The temple was built in the Art Nouveau style with the inclusion of elements of romanticism.

The temple is two-storied. The lower temple was intended for everyday services and was designed for 300 people. The upper temple was intended for holidays and was designed for a thousand people. The temple has reinforced concrete vaults.

The dome of the temple is very interesting, in the construction of which an unusual engineering solution was applied: two reinforced concrete slabs with an air gap rest on a ring-shaped iron roof truss. The dome of the dome is also made of reinforced concrete. The dome is decorated with tiles covered with gilded majolica. The octagonal tent of the bell tower was made of the same tile.

On April 11, 1910, crosses were placed on the domes of the temple and ten bells were raised on the belfry. In December 1911, the upper Church of the Intercession was consecrated, intended for festive services. The lower church, intended for everyday services, was consecrated on April 23, 1912 in the name of the Dormition of the Mother of God. In 1912, a bell weighing 475 pounds was raised on the church bell tower. It was made at the expense of the noblewoman F. E. Morozova.

The Intercession Church became the first church in Moscow, built of reinforced concrete. The temple has become one of the outstanding monuments of temple art, built in 1910. The painting of the walls of the temple was carried out by painters of the art workshop of Y. Bogatenko. For rich artistic decoration and the presence of ancient icons, the temple took one of the first places in Moscow. Only the temple at the Rogozhskoye cemetery was ahead of him.

After the October Revolution, in the thirties, the temple was closed. The crosses were knocked down, the bells were removed and disappeared without a trace. The bells of the bell tower were tightly sealed. The figured cast-iron gates were broken, but the cast-iron grating of the fence was miraculously preserved. In 1966, everything inside the church was converted into a sports hall for the sports society "Spartak". In 1990 he moved to the gym from "Spartak" to the VDFSO of trade unions.

In 1992, the Presidium of the Moscow City Council made a decision to put the building under state protection. Today the temple is in the process of being revived.
