Kapfingerkapelle description and photos - Austria: Fugen - Hochfugen. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Kapfingerkapelle. Photo and descriptionThe Chapel of the Virgin Mary, also called the Kapfinger Chapel, is located in the Kapfing area, which was previously an independent village, later annexed to the city of Fugen. To find this chapel, you will have to turn left from the local fire station and walk a little down the hill. It was built in 1746, although its facade is adorned with the numbers "1700". The construction of the chapel was financed by Hans Geisler, the owner of one of the companies in Kapfing. The Bishop of Brixen Leopold von Spaur visited this chapel in 1749 and blessed it. He emphasized that believers come here and pray to Jesus Christ for the destruction of heresy in the Ziller Valley. From this call it becomes clear that it was at this time that Protestantism became popular in the Zillertal. The Kapfinger Chapel is one of the landmarks of the ancient city of Fugen, now a popular ski resort. The Virgin Mary Chapel is a small building with one nave and a gable roof, over which you can see a low turret topped with an onion-shaped dome and a weather vane in the shape of the Austrian flag. It is located slightly below the cross that crowns the whole structure. Wooden doors lead to the chapel. A small canopy is installed above the arched portal, repeating the shape of the roof. On either side of the door are two oval windows. Such a small, secluded standing temple has a rather rich interior. There is a magnificent marble altar, where under the glass there is a sculptural composition depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. There are statues in the church and some other saints.
