The opening of the new building of the drama theater on March 5, 2010 was the most anticipated event for residents and guests of the city. The building area exceeds 17 thousand square meters. The new theater has two halls - the main one and the small one, spacious rooms for artists, a modern warehouse for decorations and a small hotel for visiting groups. The beautiful interior of the hall, crowned with a transparent dome, grand staircases, and a mirrored dressing room, elevates the provincial theater to the world level. As proof of all the requirements of the grandiose project, there is a professional stage area illuminated by half a thousand projectors. The architectural image of the building was brought to life by a creative workshop under the direction of the architect A.A. Breusov. The Regional Drama Theater in Penza is considered one of the oldest in Russia. The opening of the first theatrical season in November 1793 was handled by the vice-governor of the region, playwright and poet - I.M. Dolgoruky. Public theatrical performances began with the comedy "The Deceiver" based on the play by Catherine II. Over the long history of the theater, Penza has been repeatedly noted by art workers and ordinary theatergoers for the brilliant acting and directorial work.
