Monument to Baron Munchausen description and photo - Russia - Baltics: Kaliningrad. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionIn the Central Park of Kaliningrad there is one of the most original monuments dedicated to a prominent personality - Baron Munchausen. The monument was erected in June 2005 at the initiative of the public organization "Munchausen's Grandchildren". The sculpture of the master of art forging Georg Petau from Germany became a gift for the 750th anniversary of the city. The sculptural composition consists of: a steel wall, in which the silhouette of Baron Munchausen flying on the core is carved, a cannonball and a pedestal, on different sides of which are written two names of the city (Konigsberg and Kaliningrad). There is a tablet on the pedestal stating that this sculpture was donated to Kaliningrad by the city of Bodenwerder, which is the birthplace of the Munchausen prototype - Karl Jerome Friedrich Baron von Munchausen. It is known that the famous baron visited Koenigsberg twice - on the way to Petersburg (to serve in the Russian army) and back. About fifty residents of the city of Bodenwerd came to the opening of the monument dedicated to the hero of the book R.E. Raspe. The sculptural composition is made in such a way that you can crawl into the missing fragment of the silhouette and, finding yourself on the core, depict the flight of Baron Munchausen himself. Also in Kaliningrad (in the Rybnaya village) there is a monument to the boot of the resourceful baron.
