Baths description and photos - Hungary: Budapest. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Baths. Photo and descriptionThe Budapest baths were created thanks to the numerous springs with healing and thermal water gushing at the foot of the caves in the Buda Mountains. The springs that feed the Gellert Thermal Bath with their waters were used as early as the 13th century. Then a hospital was built near them, where the monks treated the suffering. This place was also called the Dirty Bath, because the water, which was used to treat diseases of the joints and circulatory organs, was muddy from silt. The Gellert Hotel with its thermal bath was built in the Art Nouveau style in the early years of the 20th century at the western foot of the Gellert Hill. Colored ceramics of the Zsolnay factory in Pecs was widely used to decorate it. Turkish baths were built on the healing springs of Buda. In addition to their direct purpose, they were also places of political discussion and bargaining. Four such baths have survived on the Buda bank of the Danube. One of them is named after one of its former owners Kirai (Royal). It was built by the Turkish Pasha Sokollu Mustafa around 1570. At the beginning of the 19th century, a side wing was added to it. The polygonal pool and flat dome date from the 16th century.
