Moesgaard Museum description and photos - Denmark: Aarhus. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Moesgaard Museum. Photo and descriptionThere are many museums in the picturesque town of Aarhus, of which the Museum of Prehistoric Denmark is very popular. This is one of the main museums of the ancient history of East Jutland. The museum houses exhibits from the Stone Age, Bronze and Iron Age. Archaeologists, ethnographers and anthropologists of the Aarhus University are actively involved in the work of the museum. The main historical attraction of the museum since 1952 has been the mummy "Man from Grauballe", who died about 2300 years ago at the age of 34. The mummy was found in a swampy area near Aarhus. Thanks to the latest technologies in 2001, scientists managed to reveal some of the secrets of the life of this ancient man. The museum has an interesting collection of ancient weapons, found by archaeologists in the valley of the Illerup river. There are also stones with runic inscriptions in the museum (in part, scientists managed to decipher the inscriptions on them). Today the museum is closed to visitors (the museum is moving to a new building). The new premises will open in 2014. The most interesting Viking Museum is located nearby. Since December 2011, it has officially become part of the Museum of Prehistoric Denmark. The exposition of the Viking Museum presents fragments of various structures, tools, household utensils, ceramics, etc. With the help of 3D effects, visitors in the museum are presented with a panorama of ancient Aarhus.
