The city garden of Mariupol was founded in 63 in the 19th century on a high hill. The choice fell on this place because numerous fruit trees grew here. The park went through two main stages in its development. The first is the stage of arborization, the second is the creation of a vast landscape park area.

In the year 89 of the 19th century, at the request of the city council, the famous Mariupol gardener and public figure Georgy Georgievich Psalti carried out a complete and radical redevelopment in the garden. In 1910, after the installation of the water supply system, the park acquired a fountain. The city garden was open for `` rest and various amusements of the most respectable Mariupol public, '' as advertisements posted on the streets reported at that time.

At various times, A.I. Kuindzhi and A.S. Serafimovich, K.F. Bogaevsky and A.S. Novikov-Priboy. And the Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich, who visited Mariupol in 1872, even planted two trees with his own hands in the city garden.
