Photo and description

The English park is located on the shore of a lake in Geneva and is made in traditional English style. The essence of this style is reflected in the smooth straight alleys, sculptures of white stone and a special planting of trees. Several busts and a magnificent fountain by A. Andre are installed in the park. A detailed map of Switzerland is depicted on one of two huge boulders protruding above the lake.

The famous flower clock, one of the symbols of the city, is also located in the English Park. Even in Ancient Greece, the idea of a flower clock was born: in different plants, flowers open and close at different times of the day, which means that you can pick up plants so that you can approximately determine the time by their flowering. The idea to recreate such a clock came to Karl Linnaeus. Linnaeus sought to interest students in the biological rhythms of plants and flowers. Long before that, the scientist carefully studied floristry, about which a scientific book was even written.

In 1903, the first Geneva flower clock was installed - a copy of Linnaeus's design. And this is not just a decoration - an arrow moves in them. The whole mechanism is hidden under the flower arrangement, and the dial is the flower bed itself. The modern clock located in the park was installed in 1955, its diameter is 5 meters. Every year " design " hours changes and 6500 varieties of colors are used for this, moreover, every month the color palette completely changes.
