Funds for the construction of the temple were allocated by the Petrozavodsk merchant Efim Grigorievich Pimenov and a number of other benefactors. It took four years to build the church. In 850 it was crowned with the Holy Cross, and in 1852 the Archbishop of Olonets solemnly consecrated the temple.

A few archival documents tell about the events of the 1920-1950s. In 1930, from the funds of the temple for the `` needs of industrialization '' nine bells with a total weight of 3.1 tons were seized. Later, part of the utensils from the Holy Spirit Cathedral blown up in 1936 was transferred to the temple.

The Holy Cross Church remained open for divine services until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
