This temple, known as the St. Nicholas Church on the Water (although its official name is the `` Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker ''), is the first and only temple in Ukraine located in the water area. The total height of the temple is approximately 23 meters. The number of people that the Church can accommodate on the water is 50, the same number can be accommodated on the site near the temple. The temple is connected to the shore by a fifteen-meter bridge.

Despite the extremely young age of the temple, the Church on the water has its own prehistory. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the chapel of St. Nicholas, made in the pseudo-Russian style, was located on the river pier in Kiev. The chapel was built with funds allocated by the city's water rescue society, and stood there until the 30s, that is, before the heyday of the struggle against religion.

The modern church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker continued the history of the chapel. It began to be erected in December 2003, the construction was sponsored by the Ukrrichflot company. The architects of the temple were Elena Miroshnichenko and Yuri Lositskiy, who proposed to build the church on reclaimed soil. In its form, the Church on the Water is a chapel, a cross in plan, crowned with a dome. From a distance, the temple somewhat resembles a chestnut.

Construction continued until 2004. Upon completion of construction, in July of the same year, the temple was consecrated during the celebration of the feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist. The consecration was carried out by Volodymyr (Sabodan), Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine. The young church already has its own relic - this is the icon of St. Nicholas, the age of which experts estimate at more than two centuries. Both the icon and the temple itself, due to their uniqueness, have become an object of genuine interest for Kievites and guests of the city, turning them into a local landmark.
