Photo and description

The Archaeological Museum, known by the abbreviation MARQ, is located in the Spanish city of Alicante, in the square of Dr. Gomez Ulla. The museum was opened in 1932 with the support of President Alcala Zamora Niseto and originally occupied the first floors of the recently rebuilt Palace of Deputies. In 2000, the museum moved to the San Juan Hospital building. Local archaeologists Lafuente Jose Vidal and Francisco Pacheco Figueres made a significant contribution to the formation of the museum's collections.

Today it is one of the largest archaeological museums in the country, showing visitors the huge historical heritage of the Costa Blanca region, represented by 81 thousand exhibits. The museum has several halls, in each of which the displayed expositions correspond to certain time periods. So, there are collections on the Paleolithic era, the period of development of Roman culture, the culture of Iberia, the Middle Ages and modern times.

The Archaeological Museum in Alicante is not a simple museum. Here, it would seem, history comes to life, talks to us with the voice of time, allows us to see with our own eyes the life of people in different periods of time. The thing is that this museum is equipped with state-of-the-art audio and video technologies, thanks to which visitors can watch real historical stories, meticulously created by the museum staff, with the participation of people and the use of real museum exhibits. In total, scientists have created 18 such videos, which are shown on huge screens.

In 2004, the museum was awarded the title of the best museum of the year in Europe.
