Photo and description

Palazzo Bevilacqua is an ancient palace in Verona, the construction of which is prescribed to the architect Michele Sanmicheli. I must say that in Verona there are two Palazzo with this name, since the Bevilacqua family was very famous and played an important role in the history of the city. One palace is located in the historical center of the city, the second is located near the Boulevard Cavour. Without a doubt, the second one, just built by Sanmikeli, is more famous. Over the years, it housed a collection of works of art collected by Count Marco Bevilacqua, in which one could see both the works of Veronese artists and world-renowned masters such as Tintoretto. Today this collection is scattered around the world and settled in various public and private collections, including the Louvre.

The construction of Palazzo Bevilaqua began in the 16th century, but the palace remained unfinished. Columns with busts of Roman warriors carved out of stone and windows set in low arched vaults adorn the lower floor of the building. The richly decorated upper floor with four windows flanked by doors is surrounded by a huge Greek-style balcony. A powerful entrance door leads to a lovely courtyard, from which, in turn, one could get into the mezzanine, where members of the noble family lived. This is by far one of the finest and most luxuriously ornamented palaces in Verona.

The last Duchess of Bevilacqua donated the family estate to Verona, and today the Palazzo houses the State Institute of Technology "Ippolito Pindemonte".
