Trail of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) description and photos - Italy: Amalfi Riviera. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Sentiero degli Dei. Photo and descriptionSentiero degli Dei - Path of the Gods is one of the most popular tourist routes on the Amalfi Riviera in the vicinity of Salerno. Crystal clear sea, amazingly beautiful landscapes, monuments of history and culture - all this mixed on a relatively short stretch of coast. And the Amalfi Riviera itself is a mixture of history, traditions and legends. The boundaries of Sentiero degli Dei are still not clearly defined. There is the so-called "upper trail" - from Santa Maria di Castello to Bomerano and the "lower trail" - from Bomerano to Nocella, a suburb of Positano. The latter is more popular and beloved by tourists due to its breathtaking views. The "lower trail" starts in the town of Bomerano and is accessible to people of all ages. The first part of the trail passes through an area devoid of large vegetation, among bushes and grasses, which sometimes hide real archaeological gems. Gradually, the vegetation becomes denser and denser, and now stone oaks and strawberry trees appear on the way of tourists. The last part of the trail runs along the top of Monte Tre Calli, where the sky and the sea below merge together on the horizon and provide visitors with a wonderful panorama. From here you can see the Cilentan Riviera, Praiano, Positano and the famous island of Capri. Climbing the Colle Serra hill, tourists can admire the charming Grotto del Biscotto, named for its traditional cookie shape. This is a place of natural and historical value. Inside there are several caves where people lived in antiquity. Another interesting place is a pointed rock on which a memorial plaque is installed in memory of Gioacchino Fortunato, the man who gave this route the name of Sentiero degli Dei. Behind Colle Serra, the road to Nocella begins - it winds among myrtle and olive trees and rosemary thickets. From Nocelle you can go to Positano, overcoming 1,500 steps. The entire Path of the Gods takes about three hours. Another classic route is the road from Vettika Maggiore or Praiano. This road is more difficult due to the abundance of stairs and steep slopes, but no less attractive for its views. On it, next to the church of Santa Maria a Castro, you can see the monastery of San Domenico. In August, the monastery is literally strewn with burning candles, lamps and torches - this is how local residents celebrate the religious festival "Luminaria". The roots of this holiday go back to the 16th century.
