Photo and description

The Museum of the Abruzzo Peoples, located in Pescara on Via delle Caserme, is one of the most interesting sights of the city, introducing the history and art of many ethnic groups living in the Italian region of Abruzzo. The building of the museum was built on the foundations of the legendary fortress of Pescara, which played an important role in the history of the city, just a few meters from the Adriatic coast. Along with the antiquities found on the territory of Abruzzo and dating back almost 4 thousand years, in the museum you can see exhibits that tell about the way of life of local peoples.

The first eight halls of the museum were opened to the public in June 1991. And work on its creation began long before that - in 1973, at the initiative of the Archaeological Club of Pescara and the Association for the Study of Folk Traditions of Abruzzo. It was these two organizations that founded the first Museum of Folk Traditions of Abruzzo and the permanent archaeological exhibition. Initially, the exhibits were housed in the house where Gabriele d'Annunzio, the most famous native of Pescara, was born, and later a separate building was allocated for the museum - the so-called Baths of the Bourbons, which housed a prison in the 16th century. In 2003 and 2004, the last seven halls of the museum were opened, as well as an auditorium, an exhibition hall and a cafe-library.

Today, in the Museum of the Peoples of Abruzzo, you can trace the entire history of the appearance of man in these places, from the Paleolithic era to the middle of the 20th century, when the mechanization of production processes irreversibly changed the way of life of people and their culture. This museum is certainly one of the most visited not only in Pescara, but in the entire Abruzzo area.
