Photo and description

The city walls are considered to be one of the best-preserved city fortifications in Europe.

The city acquired its current form of fortification with a perimeter of 1940 meters in the 16th century. It was then that the Italian architects built the key fragments of the city fortifications: the Mincheta Tower, the Pile Gate, the Bokar Fortress, as well as two separate fortresses: Lovrienac and Revelin. In 1484, the Kashe protective pier, which defended the city port from pirates and storms, has been poured since then.

The port is protected by the fortress of St. John. It now houses the Maritime Museum and a small aquarium.

A magnificent view of the ancient city and port opens from the fortress walls.
