Photo and Description

The Pasig River Lighthouse was the first lighthouse built in 1642 in the Philippines. Then it was located at the mouth of the Pasig River, marking the entrance to the river for ships entering Manila Bay and looking for a dock. In 1846, the Spaniards built a new lighthouse, but in the same place - at the mouth of the river dividing Manila in two. For almost a century, he was a kind of guiding star for all sailors of inter-island ships, showing them the way to the berths.

The lighthouse, which the local population called "Farola" (translated from Spanish - lighthouse), was one of the most notable attractions of the Bay of Manila until the middle of the 20th century. The construction and expansion of the city's port further south and the subsequent reclamation of the coastal strip significantly changed the location of the lighthouse. making it almost invisible from the water surface of the bay. In 1992, the old Spanish lighthouse was demolished, and in its place was built an architecturally simpler one with a new tower. Next to it is the Manila Coast Guard station. And the area that grew up on the lands reclaimed from the sea is called Parola, which means "lighthouse" in Filipino.

The current building of the lighthouse is a white cone-shaped concrete structure 14 meters high and a focal plane of 13.11 meters. The old lighthouse was almost a meter taller - it towered 14.94 meters above the ground.
