Photo and description

At the top of the highest hill in Udaipur, Aravalli hill, which is located above Lake Pichola, from where a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and lake opens, is the white Monsun Palace, also known as Sajan Palace Garh. Its history began in 1884, when the Maharaja Sajan Singh, famous for his progressive views, was in power. It was under this ruler that roads were built, the city was greened, and a water supply system appeared.

It is not surprising that the palace planned by Sajan Singh was supposed to become comfortable and modern. Unfortunately, the Maharaja died before the castle was built. The construction was completed under his successor Fateh Singh, although not all of the ideas of the ruler of Sajan were implemented. Erected at an altitude of 944 meters, the palace served as an excellent place for observing the clouds during the monsoons (hence the name), as well as for relaxing during the hunting season.

A winding road leads to the palace through the entire mountain, which abuts against a massive gate in the wall, surrounding the palace complex, and its strong bastions were a good defense for Sajan Garh.

Monsun is built entirely of white marble and is a large and lush castle with many rooms and halls. Turrets, neat domes, carved borders and openwork arches greatly adorn the strict lines of the building. Standing at the very top of the mountain, the palace looks just fabulous when the lights turn on in the evenings. And the territory around the castle since 1987 has received the status of a protected area, which is called Sajangarh.

This place is especially popular among tourists during the period when the monsoons blow. It is then that the beauty of the magnificent Monsun Palace is revealed.
