Photo and description

The Organ Hall is one of the main cultural and architectural attractions of the capital of Moldova, Chisinau. This tall building, decorated with a statue of an angel with wings and lying stone lions in front of the front and back entrance, will not leave indifferent any passer-by.

The building that houses the Organ Hall today was originally designed for completely different purposes and not has always served art and music. In 1903, the clergy settled here, and there was also an organization called the "House of Borrowings", which provided and distributed financial assistance to clergy in difficult times for them. In 1922 the Diocesan Congress transformed the House of Borrowings into another organization called the Bank of Orthodox Clergy of Bessarabia. After the end of the Second World War, the building was restored. It was then that his fate was decided. The amazing acoustics of the hall played an important role in this.

The building was erected in a monumental form typical of classicism with the addition of romantic elements. A distinctive feature of the building is the integrity of the image and strict proportions. Sculptural groups and the outline of the dome contribute to this expressive image.

The main highlight of this magnificent hall is the electromechanical organ, which includes about 4 thousand pipes. The organ was installed by a well-known Czech company with old traditions, Rieger-Kloss. The organ sounded for the first time in September 1978 at a concert dedicated to the opening of the Chisinau Organ Hall. Cellist I. Zhosan, organist S. Bodul, Doina Academic Choir Capella, as well as Honored Artist, soprano M. Biesu and other folk artists.

Every year the Organ Hall hosts various exhibitions, festivals and competitions.
