Photo and descriptionLviv City Hall, now the building of the city administration, is the main attraction and symbol of the city of Lviv and is located in the very center of Rynok Square. The very first wooden town hall of Lviv was built when the city received the right of self-government (1357), but during a fire in 1381 it completely burned down. The modern tower was erected in 1830-1835. The building was executed in the style of Viennese classicism, had a height of four floors, and was built of brick, with a small courtyard in the inner part. The authors of the project were architects J. Markl, F. Trescher and A. Vondrashek. Lviv City Hall is a witness of many historical events. In 1848, during the revolutionary events, the center of the Lviv city was shelled by Austrian artillery, including the town hall itself was badly damaged. In 1851, the building was renovated, and the previously installed domed completion was replaced with crenellated ceilings of the type of medieval towers. The following year, a new clock was installed on the tower, which is in good service today. Since 1939, the building has housed the Lviv City Council. The Town Hall is always waiting for its visitors, it is impossible to ignore it. Upon entering the tower, you will be greeted by figures of lions with the city's emblem on their shields. Here you can take a tour of the corridors of this historic building. Having overcome 408 steps, you will come to the observation deck of the Lviv City Hall, from where one of the best panoramas of Lviv opens up - the whole city at a glance. While walking up or down the stairs, you can look at the mechanism of the clock that sings the anthem of the city every day at noon.
