Photo and description

Khan Tengri Peak is a real treasure of the Tien Shan, located at the junction of the borders of three countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China. Khan Tengri Peak is the second highest mountain in the northernmost of the Asian mountain ranges. The name of the mountain is translated from the Turkic language as “Lord of the sky”. Very few peaks can be compared in beauty to Khan Tengri. The peak causes an especially unique spectacle during sunset, when all the surrounding peaks are plunged into darkness, and only one Khan-Tengri is painted in bright red.

The first scientific information about the mountain dates back to the middle of the XIX century. Khan-Tengri was first seen and described in 1856-1857. famous Russian geographer and traveler P.P. Semyonov-Tien-Shan during his trip to the Tien-Shan.

To date, more than 10 routes have been climbed to the top of Khan Tengri. All these routes can be conditionally divided into two main groups: ascents from the south - from the side of the South Inylchek glacier, and ascents from the north - from the side of the North Inylchek glacier. The most popular route of ascent from the south is route number 1 - "along the marble edge". This route is constantly monitored by rescue services.

Khan Tengri Peak is the main goal of many professional climbers. It takes about two weeks to reach the top. At the peak of Khan Tengri, a capsule is buried containing a message from previous climbers for future conquerors of the mountain. Each climber who climbed to the top of the peak digs out a capsule and, using a pencil, leaves his message, namely the name and date of the ascent, and then buries the capsule again.

At the foot of Khan Tengri, you can see the Inylchek glacier and the mysterious lake Merzbakher, which appears annually in the summer only to disappear in August.
