Clare Island - impressive coastal cliffs, picturesque hills, small forests and a lot of interesting places and activities. It is an ideal place for lovers of outdoor activities and long walks in the fresh air (you can also rent a bike for walking). Bird watchers will also like the island.

Among the sights of Claire, it is undoubtedly worth noting the ruins of the castle tower of the legendary "pirate queen" Gray O'Malley (also known in history as Granual), and the old lighthouse on the northern tip of the island. built back in the early 19th century. No less interesting is the small Cistercian abbey of the 14th century, where even today you can see fragments of medieval wall frescoes that have been well preserved to this day.

You will have a lot of pleasure going to the organic farm "Makkala", where you can attend yoga classes, listen to an entertaining lecture on the basics of proper nutrition, and go horseback riding. You can also go to the nearby islands of Kakher (uninhabited) and Inishtruk.

The island is famous for its very lively nightlife and various festivals (held mainly in summer). If you decide to spend a few days on the island, you should take into account that the choice of accommodation (a couple of B & B hotels, hostels, etc.) is quite limited and you should take care of booking in advance.

You can get to Clare Island by ferry leaving from Roonagh pier near the village of Louisboro, the journey will take no more than 20 minutes (during the off-season the ferry runs only twice a day - morning and evening).
