The Lower Gate is a historic baroque gate located in the city of Gdansk. The gate was built in 1626 by the Polish military architect Jan Strakowski. He was a famous bricklayer of his era, whose authorship belongs to: the stone decoration on the Old Town Hall and the Great Armory. The lower gate was built on the basis of the fortification plan of Cornelius van den Boche, created in 1619. Made of bricks, the gate reflects the influence of the Dutch Baroque on the work of the architect Jan Strakowski.

In the 30s of the 20th century, the appearance of the gate was slightly changed: the authorities filled up the old moat and removed the drawbridge, which changed the facade of the building .

During World War II, the Lower Gate was boarded up on both sides with wooden shields, therefore, they practically did not suffer during the hostilities.

The lower gate is located near the bastion of St. Gertrude. Currently, an active road passes under the gate.
