The name in English is Wolfsberg. Photo and descriptionWolfsberg is a city located in the south of Austria, in the province of Carinthia, which is the capital of the district of the same name. It is located above the Lavant River, a tributary of the Drava. It is home to about 25 thousand people. Wolfsberg is the third largest city in the state of Carinthia. The sights of the city include the old town houses built on the main square, mainly in the 16th-17th centuries and which have survived to this day almost unchanged. There is also a castle in the town, erected in 1178, but after that it was rebuilt and expanded several times. In 1846, Count Hugo I Henkel von Donnersmarck restored this abandoned historic mansion, designed by the Viennese architect Johann Romano. Currently, Wolfsberg Castle has been rebuilt in the Gothic style. It is used as a cultural center where temporary exhibitions are often held. Visiting such an exhibition, you can partially see the castle. Another local castle, Bayerhofen, dates back to the second half of the 16th century. One of the oldest architectural monuments in the city is the parish church of St. Mark. It was built in the late Romanesque style in the 13th century and was first mentioned in the annals of 1216. Around 1240, a Romanesque portal was built in the temple, which was later decorated with Gothic and early Baroque elements. The chapel of St. Anne, which was built by the bakers' guild, is also interesting, therefore it is often called the temple of bakers. Outside the city you can find the Zilberberg palaces, erected in the 16th century, and the Reideben palaces built in 1550, as well as the picturesque ruins of the Mushem castle.
