Connaught area (more commonly used is the abbreviation SR) is the business, commercial and financial center of the capital of India - Delhi. Once upon a time, this place was a desert area, where only jackals and wild pigs lived. But on the initiative of the chief architect of the British government, Nichols, a project was developed to create a business center for the city. And although Nichols left India in 1917, the project was still brought to life. It was carried out by Robert Thor Russell, who became the author of the design of Connaught Square.

The construction of the area began in 1929 and completed in 1933. The main architectural style has become a balanced and thoughtful Victorian style. But, unfortunately, at the moment it is no longer visible as clearly as before, due to the very active construction on the territory of the square and the entire district.

The area was named after the Duke of Connaught - Prince Arthur, the third son of Queen Victoria. The official name of this place is Rajiv Chowk, after one of the Prime Ministers of India, the late Rajiv Gandhi.

The area is a large circle, in the center of which there is a huge square with roads diverging from it in all directions.

At the moment, repair and restoration work is being completed in the area, which began several years ago as part of the program for the restoration and preservation of the cultural heritage of India.
