Photo and description

The Church of the Savior in Ryady is a five-domed Orthodox church of the middle of the 18th century, which is part of the Kostroma Trade Rows ensemble. Included in the list of objects of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation.

For the first time, the Church of the Savior was mentioned in 1628, when “church places” were located in the “new city” of Kostroma. And already in the 1760s, on the initiative of the merchant Stefan Semyonovich Belov, the stone Church of the Savior was built in the traditions of pre-Petrine architecture. It was a five-domed, one-apse, pillarless temple. The solemn consecration ceremony took place in 1766.

In the 1790s, during the construction of the Red Rows, the Spassky Church appeared in the inner square of the rows, and it was at that time that the old dilapidated church bell tower was dismantled. Instead, the architect Stepan Andreevich Vorotilov in 1792 - 1793 created a project for a new bell tower in the late Baroque style. The period from 1803 to 1808 in the history of the church was marked by the fact that a warm side-altar in the name of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos was added to it.

Before the revolutionary events in the church, the icon in honor of the Origin of the honest trees of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord was in special respect. It was decorated with gold, silver, precious stones and pearls. In addition, the image of the holy martyrs and confessors Guria, Aviv and Samon was venerated in the church.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the temple clergy consisted of a priest and a psalmist.

In 1929, the Savior Church was abolished ... Since 1930, an anti-religious museum has been located here. But already in the late 1930s, the chapters and the church bell tower were dismantled, and the church was converted into a storage room. In the period from 1974 to 1976, architects V.S. Shaposhnikov and L.S. Vasiliev restored the heads of the church (but without crosses) and the bell tower. In 1992, crosses appeared on the dome and the bell tower. In 1986-2007, the exhibition hall of the historical and architectural museum-reserve was located in the premises of the temple. In 2007, the Church of the Savior in Ryady was transferred to the Kostroma and Galich diocese.

Not far from the Savior Church in the Vegetable (Tabachny) rows, there was the Savior Chapel, which belonged to the Assumption Cathedral. When the Vegetable Rows were built (1819-1824), the chapel was included in the end of the Trading Rows. In the 1870s, the chapel was rebuilt in the Russian-Byzantine style.

In 1962-1963, during the restoration work carried out in the Vegetable Rows, under the supervision of L.S. Vasiliev's chapel has partially regained its original appearance. It is currently used as a utility room.
