Photo and description

The Archaeological Museum is housed in the former bishop's palace, founded in the 15th century as a trading house. At the beginning of the 15th century, the place of the existing building was occupied by a small stone building, from which only cellars have survived to this day. It was they who were taken as the basis for a stone two-story house, built no later than 79 in the 15th century. In the 16th century, to the north of it, another two-story house of a similar layout was erected, the northern entrance of which was decorated with a white-stone Renaissance portal.

At the end of the 17th century, the structure was damaged; during its restoration from the west, a two-storey volume was completed, which had a passageway decorated with a portal, which was moved from a 16th century house. At the same time, a common roof was erected, which united both houses. The layout of the combined premises remained intact.

In the middle of the 18th century, the building began to belong to the town-planning ensemble of five houses that stood on the Armenian Square. At the turn of the 18-19 centuries. the arch connecting the structures was dismantled, the facade of the western side and the interior layout of the house were altered. The palace has acquired the appearance of a stone plastered two-storey building, rectangular in plan, covered with a steep shingle, with an interception roof. In the interior of the palace, portals of white stone and a casing from the 15th century were restored, with profiling and modest ornament.

The exposition of the Archaeological Museum demonstrates the recreated dwelling of an ancient man, a collection of ancient tools, household items that belonged to the people who inhabited Podillya from ancient times.
