Mandra lake description and photos - Bulgaria: Burgas. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionBurgas lake Mandra is located in the south-west of the city. This reservoir is one of three lakes located near the city and has a length of 8 and a width of 1.3 km. Since 1963, with the construction of a dam, the lake has turned into a reservoir with fresh water, but it used to be salty (scientists believe that earlier Mandra was the richest zooplankton in the Bulgarian Black Sea reservoir). The beauty of the nature of these places cannot but attract tourists visiting the lake. Part of Mandra is a nature reserve strictly protected by the state, rare species of birds and fish live here. Mandra is considered one of the favorite nesting places of migratory birds, therefore, there is also one of the most significant bird reserves, visited by a huge number of species birds. In the summer, visitors can observe their large-scale colonial nesting grounds - the reserve and the lake lie on the main migration route from Europe to Africa. Flocks of herons, cormorants, black storks, white swans and pink pelicans will not leave indifferent people who visited the lake. The low shores of the reservoir form an ideal space for outdoor recreation - small lagoons of crystal clearness. The lake can also be of interest to avid fishermen - there are over 50 species of freshwater fish in it.
