Photo and description

At 42 km from the resort town of Lignano on the Adriatic coast of Italy in the town of Passariano, there is Villa Manin - the family residence of the last doge of the Venetian Republic. Today, the villa houses several art galleries with works by Tiepolo, Kandinsky, Kubera, Monet and Munch, and concerts are regularly held in its vast park.

Villa Manin is a whole architectural complex built in the 16th century for the Manin family. The life of this amazingly beautiful complex has always been associated with the historical and political processes of the surrounding area. In 1797, French troops under the command of Napoleon were housed in the villa. The great commander himself lived here and conducted important negotiations with allies and opponents. It was in this villa that the contract was signed, which put an end to the existence of the Venetian Republic in favor of the Habsburg Empire. And it was then that the decline of the Manin family began, which led to the desolation of the villa in the 19th century.

Only in 1969, the building was acquired by the administration of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The atrium of the villa amazes all visitors with its richly decorated rooms, painted with frescoes: the "Triumph of Spring" in the central round hall is by Louis Dorigny. Villa Manin also houses the Carriage Museum, the Arsenal Museum and the pretty chapel of San Andreo. And around the villa there is a park of 18 hectares with romantic Mimosa Avenue or Magnolia Avenue.
