Photo and description

The Turkish fountain, located in the very center of the village of Taman, is the only source of condensate water in the region. A large monument on the Taman Peninsula was erected during the reign of the Ottoman Empire here and is the only landmark of this period.

According to research by scientists, the age of the Turkish fountain does not exceed 300 years, while the exact date of the construction of this unique monument is still unknown.

The structure of the fountain is surprisingly interesting. It was created artificially. The Turkish fountain is located among the red-hot sands in a shallow depression. Scientists have always been interested in one question, where does water come from, is there only sand around ?! After a while, it became clear that the fountain was located at the bottom of a dry lake. Previously, the reservoir was a place of temporary stops and settlements of ancient sailors. The city of Hermonassa was also founded here. Currently, the dry lake is an ordinary sandy lowland, in the middle of which, in a green oasis, the Turkish fountain is located.

Initially, there was an assumption that water in it comes from an artesian well. As it turned out, the Ottomans 300 years ago laid a multi-meter system of ceramic pipes in the sand, which stretches a fairly large distance to the very source of water. Scientists also noticed that the pipes are somehow able to collect rainwater themselves, because after the rain, Turkish wells fill up much faster. There is water in the fountain even in summer, since the pipeline system does not heat up above 20 ° C, and the moist wind from the sea brings water only in the form of steam, absorbed into the sand, and it condenses in the pipes of the fountain. It is by this interesting method that the source works.

The Turkish fountain looks like a small house, inside which there is a small recess with a tap where you can draw water. Heroes of legends are depicted outside on the walls of the house.
