Photo and description

The San Jose Cathedral is located in the city center. The first cathedral on this site was built in 1802, but a devastating earthquake caused irreparable damage and the temple had to be rebuilt, which was done in 1871. The new cathedral combines many styles - Byzantine, Neoclassical, Baroque. Corrugated columns divide the interior of the cathedral, a vaulted ceiling and ornate stained glass windows complete the impression. A wooden statue of Jesus Christ can be seen in the main altar.
