Finkenstein am Faakersee is an Austrian city located in the federal state of Carinthia in the Villach district, near the border with Slovenia. The city is named after the former castle of Finkenstein, which was in the possession of the princes of Carinthia. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1142. In 1508, Emperor Maximilian I granted the city and the castle to his vassal Sigmund von Dietrichstein, whose descendants lived in the castle until 1861. These were the last inhabitants of the castle, since then it has become empty and began to gradually collapse. The ruins of Finkenstein Castle have survived to this day.

In 1979, Finkenstein received the status of a municipality, and in 2000 it was renamed Finkenstein am Faaksee.

Various events are held annually in the city, attracting many tourists. The annual Harley-Davidson Biker Meetup Week is of great interest. In addition, the Highland Games are organized every summer. Initially, this is a Scottish competition, the purpose of which is to determine the strongest resident of the city.

In addition to organized events, the city has interesting sights. In particular, the largest private model of the railway in Austria. Plant lovers can enjoy their time in the Citrus Garden, home to the largest collection of citrus trees in Austria. Architectural lovers can explore the 15th century St. Stephen's Parish Church and the ruins of Finkenstein Castle.
