Castle of Baron Gamba (Castello baron Gamba) description and photos - Italy: Val d'Aosta. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Castello baron Gamba. Photo and descriptionThe castle of Baron Gamba, now under restoration, is historically the "younger" of the three castles in the Chatillon commune in the Val d'Aosta region of Italy. The other two - Castello dei Passerine d'Entreve and Castello di Ussel - were built during the Middle Ages. Castello Gamba was built in the 20th century. It stands on a small hill in the western part of the city in the town of Crete de Breuil and is entirely surrounded by a public park open to the public all year round. The castle itself is clearly visible from the A5 motorway, and its southern side hangs over the Dora Baltea river. Castello Gamba, built in a simple, even austere style, is a compact 4-storey building of almost square shape with a central square tower. Another building rises to the side of the castle - a service building, which stretches to the north by two parallel buildings connected by a small courtyard. The castle was built in 1911 by the engineer Carlo Saroldi for Baron Charles Maurice Gamba, wife of Angelica d'Entreve, daughter of Count Christian d'Entreve. It was in the Castello Gamba park in June 2008 that Bob Dylan's last concert in Italy took place, which was attended by over 4 thousand people. Today Castello Gamba is closed for restoration. The Regional Center for Contemporary Art will soon open here and the castle will become an exhibition and cultural venue. It is assumed that within its walls there will be a regional Pinakothek with 150 works of modern art, which have already been selected for this purpose. The park surrounding the castle with a size of about 7 hectares also deserves attention - alleys are laid along it, benches are installed and there is even a wooden fountain. The attraction of the park are three huge trees - a sequoia, planted in 1888 and having 37 meters in height, 2.3 meters in diameter and a circumference of 7.2 meters, a hundred-year-old common gleditsia 22 meters high and a horse chestnut in the western part of the park ...
