Magistrate building description and photo - Ukraine: Zhitomir. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe building of the former Magistrate, located on the picturesque Castle Hill, belongs to the architectural landmarks of Zhitomir. The building was built in the 18th century and once housed the city administration. Luxurious two-storey brick building was built in the neo-renaissance style. The consistency of its forms and the severity of the architecture are still amazing. The main entrance to the building is in the middle, in a semicircular ledge. Facades of the building are illuminated by semicircular windows with sophisticated decoration. On the first tier of windows there are magnificent semicircular archivolts, and on the second floor there are frames made of triangular sandrids, supported by majestic pilasters of the Corinthian order. The building of the magistrate is decorated with an original cornice with brackets and a stucco frieze with floral ornaments. Like many monuments of history and architecture, the building of the magistrate was destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. This happened at the very beginning - in 1941. But after only a decade, in 51 of the last century, the magistrate was completely restored. The architectural appearance of the building with all its details and nuances has been completely restored. Now local authorities are planning to place an exhibition of an art gallery within the walls of the former magistrate.
