Photo and description

The four-storey building of La Salle Hall in neoclassical style was built in 1920-1924 in the Manila district of Malate. Then it housed the main building of the College of De La Salle (now the university of the same name), since the old building no longer had enough space for students. Initially, La Salle Hall had only three floors, the fourth was added in the 1990s to house the Christian community of the Brothers De La Salle. Today, the first floor of the building houses the College of Business, the second - the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament and the office of the Alumni Association of De La Salle University. In 2007, La Salle Hall became the only Filipino building included in the book 1001 Buildings You Must See Before You Die: Masterpieces of World Architecture.

During the Second World War in the Battle of Manila, the building was practically destroyed, it hid the civilian population of the city. The building was under artillery fire for a week. Japanese troops occupied the building and turned it into their headquarters. 16 members of the Christian order Brothers De La Salle and 25 civilians were killed by the occupiers in the chapel in February 1945. The restoration of the building after the war took two years and cost 5 thousand dollars. In December 1947, the chapel was consecrated by Archbishop O'Doherty in honor of Holy Communion.
