Photo and description

At the entrance to Plyos from the district town of Ivanovo, on the modern station square, which was formerly called Troitskaya Sloboda, there are two churches that are completely different from each other, at the same time complementing each other ... These are the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity (among the people - Trinity) and the Church of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple (Vvedenskaya). Trinity Church - cold summer, made in the Baroque style, Vvedenskaya - warm winter in the provincial Empire style, as some art critics call such classicism.

Trinity Church was first mentioned in the 17th century, while still wooden. In 1808, the first stone parish church appeared in the center of the upland part of Plyos at the beginning of two tracts: Shuisky and Nerecht. In the same year, the church was consecrated again, acquired a second life.

The quadrangle of the temple is two-tiered, high, topped with five onion domes on faceted pedestals. The central dome gives sunlight to the interior of the temple, thanks to the arched windows on the four sides of the octahedron. Light also pours into all the window openings of the main volume, the refectory and the altar part. The refectory on a square base and the semicircular apse are greatly understated.

Nearby, a three-tiered bell tower rises upward, equipped with arches. It creates a single whole with the church, because it is attached to the refectory. The only bulbous scaly dome of the bell tower repeats the church domes, only on a four-sided drum, instead of the octahedral foundations of the temple. All facades are richly decorated with friezes, cornices, and baroque trims.

There is an opinion that the glue painting, preserved in the church to this day, was created by artists from St. Petersburg in the 1870s. The masters of the Academy of Arts copied Western European painting in their work. Using the light streaming into the temple from everywhere, the decorators with the help of bright clean colors and delicate writing emphasized the optimistic mood of the church.

Next to the Trinity Church in 1828, a warm winter Vvedenskaya church was built at the expense of the merchants Gabriel Semenovich and Dmitry Vasilyevich Chastukhin. Just like her “sister”, the stone church of the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos has replaced the wooden one here. The temple is twice lower than the neighboring one. The small dome is located on the wide domed base of the quadrangle. Both the refectory and the altar parts are charcoal and have gable roofs with gables at the ends. Their height is underestimated relative to the main volume. The squat quadruple is slightly elongated in the north-south direction. The external decoration of the Vvedenskaya Church is more laconic than the outfit of the Trinity Church. Only the portico on the eastern part of the apse is highlighted.

Both churches are active. The architectural ensemble of two churches extends farthest from the coast into the city buildings on Kornilova Street, 7. Each building has a stone fence.
