Photo and descriptionThe Museum of the History of Varna is located in a building originally built for the needs of the Belgian Consulate. Subsequently, it changed several different profiles: the building managed to be a hotel, and at the end of the 19th century it was converted into a prison, which it served until the end of the 1920s. As a museum of urban history, the building became known only in the late 1960s. The total area of the museum is 600 square meters, all three floors of the building are occupied by various exhibitions. Each of the museum expositions tells about the history of Varna, about the development of the city from 1878 to 1939. The museum invites visitors to view photographs of old houses and streets depicted on them. In addition, samples of various architectural elements and palace objects are presented here, preserved from Euxinograd. Numerous halls of the museum display restored craft shops and various shops (for example, children's toys, books). The furnishings of rooms from an old hotel, a photographer's studio, a cafe, a lawyer's office and even a piece of a 19th century beach with a dressing area, as well as a part of the courtyard of one of the old houses in Varna have been recreated.
