Scientific Geological Museum named after A.A. Chernov's description and photo - Russia - North-West: Syktyvkar. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionScientific Geological Museum named after A.A. Chernov was founded in 1968. But the question of its creation began to be raised much earlier. One of those who repeatedly raised this issue was Alexander Alexandrovich Chernov himself. He even compiled an approximate program, called the Museum of the Local Area. The task of the museum was to be reduced to arousing interest among the local population in inanimate nature, incl. and his native land, his acquaintance with the practical meaning of objects of inanimate nature, as well as the processes taking place in it. By the time the Institute of Geology was organized in 1958, it had accumulated large collections of stone material, which was kept by the employees themselves. Naturally, there was no collection system. Many of them disappeared without a trace. Therefore, there was a need to create a museum. In 1969, an order was issued on the need to donate thematic collections to the museum. From that moment on, the process of creating and developing a geological museum began to gain momentum. For the first decade, the museum existed as a repository of collections. When creating the main museum fund, the most spectacular samples were immediately selected for creating a future exhibition. The exposition part of the museum was opened in May 1978 for the 20th anniversary of the Institute of Geology. The author of the first exposition and thematic-exposition plans was M.V. Fishman. The artist V. Serditov was involved in the design work. As a result, a rather compact, but rich in volume of material, thematic exposition of minerals of the north-eastern European part of the USSR was created. In 1980, the first museum catalog was published, which for the first time provided data on the collections of flora and fauna of the Phanerozoic of the USSR stored in the museum. A characteristic feature of the geological museum is that only local samples are displayed here. characterize mineral raw materials and geological structure of the northeast of the European part of the Soviet Union and the northern part of the Urals. It was originally planned to organize 7 departments in the museum. In 1988, the general department of the museum was completed, as well as the department of the evolution of the organic world and the structure of the earth's crust, the department of minerals, which housed more than a thousand exhibits. In 1989, the departments of lithology, petrology, tectonics were opened. In 1990, a mineralogical department was opened. In 2007, on the basis of a private collection of items made of gems by A.P. Borovinsky, and with the financial support of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Komi Republic, the Noah's Ark exhibition hall was organized. For 25 years A.P. Borovinsky collected stone products that depict insects, birds, and animals. Currently, the exhibition area of the museum is 350 sq.m. The introductory hall highlights the main stages of the study of these places, important discoveries, the visitor here gets acquainted with the geological institute and outstanding geologists. The Geological Museum is an academic institution. His exhibitions are designed for the scientific and research level of information delivery to the visitor. To expand the circle of visitors, various excursion options were developed, which were specially adapted for different age groups. Now the main visitors to the museum are students and schoolchildren. Local history lessons for younger schoolchildren are held here. For senior classes, thematic excursions are organized about the mineral resources of the region and the development of life on the planet. There are also classes for students of higher educational institutions of Syktyvkar in geological, environmental and geographical areas. On the basis of the museum, lectures are held for students of the Physics Department of SyktSU on geological disciplines, the State Pedagogical Institute, the Forestry Institute. The Geological Museum is a permanent base for students of the Small Academy of the Komi Science Center. While processing the collections of museum funds, students, under the guidance of the museum staff, write term papers and theses. Organized in the Geological Museum and work with delegations from abroad. The museum was visited by representatives of more than twenty countries of the world. When getting to know the republic, a visit to the geological museum is an integral part of the cultural program of the guests of the region.
