Kitaygorodsky section description and photos - Ukraine: Kamyanets-Podolsky. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe beginning of the Kitaygorodsky section - geological Kitaygorodsky outcrop - is located on the left side of the village of Ternava and runs along the entire slope of the hill on the Kitaygorodskaya outskirts. This delamination covers an area of 60 hectares. An insignificant part of the sediments, mainly sandstones, located in the floodplain of the river, was covered with water after the water level rose in 83-84 years of the 20th century. However, the section itself has retained its uniqueness to this day, which consists the fact that only in the area of the Kitaygorod village are Silurian deposits observed in full section. Based on the results of studying the Silurian deposits of this region, three horizons of the Podolsk Upper Silurian were identified: the upper horizon is limestone, the middle horizon is shale, and the lower horizon is sandstone. For the reason that, that fossils are found only in the limestone (upper) horizon, its age can be determined most accurately. Scientists claim that the Kitaygorodsky section is a unique geological landmark of national importance. At the same time, since there are very few places in the world where Silurian rocks are found in full section, this outcrop can and should be attributed to the world geological heritage. Next to the section is the Kitagorodsky forest, which is a botanical reserve of local importance. The rare orchid plant species growing in it are of great value. On the Kitaygorodskaya wall, there are also relics - Shivereki Podolskaya and miraculously found in this place medicinal hisop. There are several versions of the appearance of this relict plant here.
