Photo and description

The Hussein Sagar artificial lake is one of the many wonders of the city of Hyderabad, located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It was created in 1562 by order of the ruler of the principality of Hyderabad, Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah, on a tributary of the Musi River, in order to provide the city with water. Its area at that time was 5.7 square meters. km.

The reservoir received its name in honor of Hussein Shah Wali, a man who helped the ruler to recover from a serious illness. The lake is a kind of connecting link between the business cities - Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Along the embankment road that separates them, named after Mahatma Gandhi, there are 33 statues of prominent figures of the state. Unfortunately, at the moment they are partially destroyed. This highway is especially beautiful at night when it is illuminated by a multitude of colored lights, for which it is also called the "diamond necklace" of the city.

On one of the shores of the lake there is a wonderful Lumbini park, which is famous for its musical fountains, as well as the beautiful Birla temple located on its territory Mandir.

Right in the center of Lake Hussein Sagar, its main attraction is located - a huge statue of Buddha made of solid stone, the height of which is 18 meters. The idea of erecting this monument appeared back in 1985. The 450-ton Buddha figure was carved from a single piece of white granite in two years, and about two hundred sculptors worked on its creation. In 1988, the statue was brought to Hyderabad, and only in 1992, on April 12, it was installed on a pedestal in the shape of a red lotus.
