Photo and description

The stationary exhibition "Walk along Nizhne-Pokrovskaya" is a unique exposition created in 1998 on the basis of the "Guide to the city of Polotsk", published in 1910, when the relics of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk returned to hometown from Kiev. This is the first monographic exposition dedicated to the history of one street.

The exposition is open in the 17th century architectural monument "House of Peter I". The building was built in 1692 in the Baroque style. The great Russian autocrat lived in this house during the Northern War.

Later, the building was repaired and rebuilt several times. During the Great Patriotic War, the House of Peter I was badly damaged, but was restored immediately after the end of the war.

The street was named Nizhne-Pokrovskaya in 1781 after how the Intercession Church was built at the end of the street. The temple burned several times, the Polovtsians made attempts to restore it, however, the temple was restored only in our time.

The exposition of the exhibition acquaints visitors with the history of Nizhne-Pokrovskaya Street. What institutions were there, shops, what people lived, what they did, what they looked like, what they wore, what they ate and drank, how they were treated, what they bought and how they welcomed visiting guests.

The area of the museum exhibition is 97 square meters. Here you can see the old interiors of noble and bourgeois houses, the hotel (guest house) of Dovid Arleevsky, a pharmacy, a city public bank, "Trade of Mints". Each exposition is replete with rare antiques and recreated according to the Guide to the City of Polotsk from 1910.
