Not far from the Roman bridge is one of the main attractions of Cordoba - the Alcazar fortress-palace. Alcazar of Christian Kings is an ancient architectural complex with a huge territory, which has great historical value and a long historical path.

A defensive fortress was built in this place during the time of the Roman Empire. During the period of Muslim rule in the territory of Cordoba, the Roman fortress was rebuilt into a Moorish defensive bastion. After the liberation of Cordoba from the rule of the Moors, the Alcazar was turned by King Ferdinando III into the residence of kings. In 1328, during the reign of King Alfonso XI, the fortress was given the form that it still has. An interesting fact is that it was from the Alcazar that King Ferdinand IV and Queen Isabella withdrew their troops, which managed to recapture Granada from the Moors and thereby complete the centuries-old Reconquista.

The Alcazar has an almost square shape and is protected by four fortress towers, each of which at different times had its own purpose. Inside the defensive walls are the amazing gardens of the Alcazar with beautiful fountains, ponds and trees. The total area of the gardens is 55 thousand square meters. m. In the Alcazar there are many antiquities and cultural values, among which the most significant is the ancient Roman sarcophagus, dating back to the 3rd century AD. and is a true work of ancient art.

Since 1994, the Alcazar of the Christian Kings has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
