The Casa Garcilaso Regional Historical Museum is one of the most visited museums in the city of Cusco. The museum is located in the building where the Peruvian historian and writer Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (1539-1616) was born and lived until the age of 20, the author of the book "Los Comentarios Reales de los Incas", in Russian translation known as "History of the State Inca. ”

The museum was based on the collection donated by the Concha Iberico family in 1946 to the Colonial Museum. At first, the museum was located on Calle San Agustin (now Hotel Libertador). Considering the importance of the collections, the National Institute of Culture in 1967 acquired the Casa del Inca Garcilaso de la Vega for the Museum of Local Lore and History.

The style of the museum building corresponds to the style of small palaces or mansions of the 16th - 17th centuries. It has a fully fenced arcaded patio with three wings. Medallions with images of ancient characters are carved on its columns. The staircase leading to the second floor and the roof is located in the western corner of the courtyard. The walls of the building are decorated with 16th century frescoes in black and white. The porch is decorated with floral motifs and four-leafed leaves.

The museum displays a collection of exhibits from ancient times to the present day. Visitors are invited to appreciate the excellent collection of Inca culture objects, a collection of colonial paintings, it can be viewed on the first and second floor of the museum, a collection of paintings from the Cusco school, sculptures from different times, a collection of coins, ethnographic collections, which include musical instruments, samples of textile processing and products from metal, etc.
