Photo and description

Neuhofen an der Ybbs (Neuhofen an der Ybbs) can be called the city "where it came from" the Austrian land. In the 996 document, which is proof that the lands in the vicinity of modern Neuhofen an der Ybbs were donated by Emperor Otto III to the Bavarian and Freisian Bishop Gottschalk, the word "Ostarrichi" was first mentioned, which was later transformed into Austria. Thus, the city of Nyufanhof, now called Neuhofen an der Ybbs, was named Austria. Knowing this fact, you are no longer surprised that the Museum of Austrian History was opened here. A copy of the commemorative document is kept right there. The original is kept in Munich.

In addition to this document, there are also other historical papers that tell about the development of the Austrian state, about the fate of the peoples who inhabited and inhabit it, about the traditions and customs of the Austrians, about the difference between Austrian culture and the cultures of seven neighboring countries.

The exhibition on the history of Austria consists of three parts. The exhibits of the first section are important documents telling about the appearance of Austria on the maps of the world. Here is a copy of the same paper where the name of the country is first mentioned. The document is written in German and Latin. The second part of the exposition can be conditionally called linguistic. It clearly demonstrates how the name "Ostarrichi" eventually transformed into the word "Austria". The third sector of the museum is dedicated to the modern Austrian state. In particular, here you can see Austria's application for EU membership.

The Museum of Austrian History occupies a building that was erected in 1996 for an exhibition, dedicated to the millennium anniversary of Austria.
