The Kaffal Shashi mausoleum is a part of the historical complex Khazret Imam, located in the center of Tashkent. The tomb of the respected imam became the nucleus of the Khazret Imam ensemble, which in translation means "Holy Imam". It was around it that other buildings began to be erected over the course of several centuries.

The entire complex and the mausoleum in particular are dedicated to the saint, the respected scientist and preacher Kaffal Shashi, who lived in the 10th century. Kaffal's father was engaged in the manufacture of door locks all his life. He taught this craft to his son. Despite the fact that Kaffal received an excellent education in several madrasahs, visited Mecca more than once, knew the Koran perfectly, was a poet and philosopher, he could work with his hands. The very nickname Kaffal, which translates as "Master of the castle", he received after how a magnificent door lock made - a real masterpiece that could only be opened with a key weighing more than a kilogram.

The mausoleum of Kaffal Shashi with a single-domed hall and a high portal appeared in Tashkent in 1542. It is built of bricks and decorated with majolica ornaments. It was a whole center with a mosque and a khanaka (monastery, hotel), where itinerant Sufis and pilgrims could stay. Another room housed a kitchen. Two of his sons were buried near the tomb of Kaffal Shashi. In the courtyard near the mosque there are several more graves dating from a later era. And nearby there was a house where one of the followers of the "Great Imam" lived. Unfortunately, the crypt under the main hall has not stood the test of time.
