Photo and description

San Miguel de Cozumel is the only city located on the largest island in Mexico - Cozumel. It is the second largest city in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, with a population of over 70 thousand people. The city lies on the west coast, the rest of the island is covered with dense vegetation of the National Park and sandy beaches. The climate is subtropical. During the year, the average temperature practically does not change and is +25 degrees.

Today the island and this small town are most often interesting for divers. It was here in 1961 that the famous explorer of the deep sea, Jean Jacques Cousteau, made one of his exciting dives. His films have revealed the secret of Cozumel's amazing reefs.

This small town is one of the favorite places not only for tourists, but also for indigenous Mexicans. They love him for comfort and peace. Cruise ships dock here. The city is served by Cozumel International Airport. The island's connection with the mainland is maintained by a regular ferry that takes passengers to Playa del Carmen.

The island's museum is located in the city center. There are 4 halls in the museum. The exposition presents the geography and the richness of its nature, museum workers will tell about the migration path of local animals and the process of formation of unique coral reefs. The historical part of the exposition is about archaeological sites and about collisions of Spanish galleons with pirates. Local guides speak not only English and Spanish, but also the Mayan language.

For many tourists, San Miguel de Cozumel is just a cruise ship stop. But this city should not be ignored, here you can take a break from the noisy metropolis, enjoy the gifts of the sea in restaurants, stroll along its streets, and make pleasant purchases.
