Photo and Description

Kaba Aye Pagoda, officially called the World Pagoda of Peace, is located on Kaba Aye Street in Mayangon Village, Yangon. The pagoda was built in 1952 before the Sixth Buddhist Cathedral, which took place here for two years - from 1954 to 1956. 2,500 monks from various monasteries in Buddhist countries have read and revised 40 volumes of the Pali Canon. The pagoda rises 34 meters. Its length and width are also 34 meters. The pagoda was built with funds raised from the residents of Yangon. The construction involved simple townspeople who coped with the task and erected a beautiful pagoda. Inside the hollow pagoda, statues of four Buddhas are installed - in memory of those Buddhas who have already come to this world. It also houses a huge silver Buddha statue, which weighs half a ton.

In the Kaba Aye temple complex, you can also see the Mahapasana cave, which means "Great" in translation. It was built at the same time as the pagoda, but with money from local authorities. Its construction was initiated by the Prime Minister of the country, who adhered to Buddhist and Burmese beliefs, that is, he worshiped Buddha and guardian spirits. During an official trip to India, he managed to visit the Sattapanni cave, where the First Buddhist Council took place. In honor of that event, the Prime Minister decided to build a similar cave in Yangon. For this, a man-made hill was created, in the depths of which a spacious Mahapasana cave was arranged. The cave is 139 meters long and 110 meters wide. The heart of the cave - the Meeting Room - has a more modest size: it reaches 67 meters in length and 43 meters in width. The six entrances to the cave symbolize the Sixth Buddhist Cathedral.
