Photo and description

Kuyundzhiluk street is the pride of Bascarsia square, the one that remained from the big market of Ottoman times. Then the trading area of the old city consisted of no less than five hundred shops located for crafts. As in any oriental bazaar, the shops were also workshops. Since then, in the area of Bascarsija, the names of streets have been preserved in accordance with the guilds of artisans. Jewelers worked and traded on Kuyundzhiluk Street: "Kuyundzhiya" translates as a master of metal, mostly valuable.

Bascarshia Square is still an authentic oriental bazaar, and metal craftsmen are still knocking hammers on Kuyundzhiluk Street ... It is famous for its magnificent copper products - cezves, trays, plates, dishes for pilaf, jugs, indoor lamps. They come out directly from under the hands of craftsmen sitting in Turkish in a shop-workshop. At night, they are closed with shutters in the form of shields, which fold back during the day and turn into a counter, lined and hung with the most beautiful "hand-made" in the oriental style. Antiques are often found in these shops.

Today, potters, embroiderers, tailors, as well as weavers who produce the famous Sarajevo carpets work on this street next to the kuyunjis. This beautiful historic street sells a great variety of handmade souvenirs: scarves, ceramics, paintings by local artists. And even in such an extraordinary ancient place you can see the echoes of the Balkan war - souvenirs from fragments of shells and shells.

The street is always full of tourists,
