Parco di Ticino description and photos - Italy: Lake Maggiore. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Parco di Ticino. Photo and descriptionTicino Park stretches along the Ticino River on an area of 91410 hectares in Lombardy and 6561 hectares in Piedmont. Its main treasure is its astounding biodiversity: the park's numerous ecosystems - streams, coniferous forests, heathers and wetlands - have become home to nearly five thousand species of flora, fauna and fungi. The vegetation is incredibly diverse: there are mallows, wild orchids, violets, oaks, hazelnuts, hawthorns, mulberry trees and poplars in the park. In incredible abundance there are aquatic birds - red herons, white storks, mallards, etc., and predatory sparrowhawks and peregrine falcons soar in the sky. At night, the common owls and long-eared owls go hunting. Mammals are represented by squirrels, rabbits, foxes and stone martens. Insects are also numerous, especially multi-colored butterflies. The Ticino River itself is home to many amphibians, like frogs and snakes, and, of course, fish - bleaks, eels, carps, chubs, trout, whitefish and perch are found here. Since Ticino has always been a strategically important site, people have long settled on its banks, from which historical fortresses have survived. Especially worth noting are the castles of Vigevano, Somma Lombardo and Pavia, which are now open to tourists. Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will love walking along the park's hiking trails, cycling or horseback riding along Via Verdi. Here you can even climb into the sky in a hot air balloon and look at the stunning area from a height. Besides, you can book an excursion with canoe or rubber boat. Also in the park you can buy rice, corn and wheat flour, ham and salami, barley and honey - everything is grown and made here, in an ecologically clean place.
